Native Books/Na Mea Hawaii


Filled with the best locally made gifts, clothing, food and art as well as the most complete collection of books about Hawaii and the Pacific. Featured Artists include Nake'u Awai, Skinny Dip, The Lauhala Lady, Forever Kauai Niihau Shell Lei Collection, bete mu'u and the work of Mapuana. The store also hosts Na Mele Nei, first Sunday of the month live music concerts from 2p-4p. A section of hula implements and pa'u skirts has been added, a section of Hawaiian weapons, medicinal plants and the Aupuni artwall featuring contemporary Hawaiian artists.

The  Na Mele Nei "First Sunday" 2008 Concert Series will continue to  showcase  island performers, every first Sunday of the month. Folks join together in a  warm, relaxing island backyard style setting to enjoy an afternoon of music filled with the aloha spirit. Na Mele Nei First Sunday Concerts  will  start at 1pm  at the Ward Warehouse Amphitheatre. Concerts are free and will feature a special "Guest " performance followed by our very own Na Mele Nei Backyard Gang  who  promise to deliver a delightful, impromptu sharingof  Hawaiian/Island song, hula and story telling . These concerts are presented by Native Books Na Mea Hawaii.

Mondays – Lei Hulu (Feather) Workshops with Kaha‘i Topolinski & Eric Wada

Students will learn the traditional craft of Hawaiian featherwork through projects such as lei hulu (feather lei), kāhili (feather standard) and other hulu items.  Classes are $25 per month or $10 per lesson and participants will continue working on their projects from week to week. Saturdays - Beginning Adult 'Ukulele Classes

Enjoy the many musical talents of Hawai‘i, from traditional ‘ukulele to slack key guitar to contemporary. Concerts are held at the Ward Warehouse Amphitheater every first Sunday of the month.  Each month, a special guest artist or group will perform, followed by the Nā Mele Nei Backyard Gang who promises a delightful island style afternoon with Hawaiian music, hula and stories.
